Why We Recommend It

Grand Hotel Flora is a good option if you want to stay within walking distance of central Sorrento but still have the facilities of a larger hotel. The property has been completely renovated, giving what was once a fairly traditional Sorrento hotel a much fresher identity, with contemporary design balanced by local details and furniture.

The real advantage here is the amount you get on site. There is a large garden pool at ground level, a restaurant, pool bar and the new Oliva rooftop, which brings together panoramic views over the Gulf, cocktails, pizza and dining at sunset. The rooftop gives Flora a considerably more interesting atmosphere in the evenings than you might expect from a hotel on Corso Italia.

It also works well for families. Several room categories sleep three or four guests, there are proper Junior Suites and Suites, and you can easily walk into town rather than organising taxis every time you want to go out. We particularly like it for travellers who want a pool and plenty of hotel facilities but would rather not stay up in the hills outside Sorrento.

‍

Best For

Families, couples, first-time visitors, longer summer stays and travellers who want a pool and rooftop atmosphere within walking distance of central Sorrento.

Good To Know

There are actually two pool experiences, and it is important to understand the difference. The main garden swimming pool at ground level is open to hotel guests and normally operates from May to October. The panoramic rooftop also has a pool, but this rooftop pool is reserved exclusively for guests staying in Suites and Junior Suites. The Oliva rooftop itself normally operates from June to October. Room outlooks also vary considerably. Some categories have balconies overlooking the sea and pool, while Standard rooms face Corso Italia and other categories may have mountain or internal views. If the Gulf view is important to you, choose a room category that specifically states sea or sea/pool view. The hotel does not have a full spa. Massages can be arranged on request, but we would not describe this as a spa hotel. Private parking is available by reservation for an additional charge — currently listed by the hotel at €25 per day — with valet parking used at the same rate if the hotel's spaces are full.

Rooms & Style

The renovation has given the rooms a much more contemporary feel while keeping some distinctly local details, particularly colourful Vietri ceramic floors and traditional inlaid furnishings. There is a broad range of categories, which is useful because they suit quite different types of stay. Standard rooms are around 22 square metres and can sleep up to three guests, while Deluxe rooms accommodate up to four. Superior and Classic categories are available with balconies overlooking the sea and pool. Junior Suites are around 32 square metres, sleep up to four and come with sea/pool-view balconies, while the larger Suites are around 45 square metres and have balconies with sea views. There are also Signature rooms on the upper floors, aimed more at couples and offering larger spaces and private balconies. The style is polished and modern rather than boutique or particularly intimate; choose it for comfortable rooms and good hotel facilities rather than the character of a tiny historic property.

Location & Getting Around

Grand Hotel Flora is on Corso Italia, east of the historic centre in the direction of Sant'Agnello. It is roughly a 10-minutenflat walk to Piazza Tasso, so the location works particularly well for anyone who wants to explore Sorrento on foot without staying directly amid the busiest lanes of the old town. Sorrento railway station is also within easy walking distance, making the hotel convenient for day trips to Pompeii or Naples using the local Circumvesuviana. For Capri and Amalfi Coast ferries, Marina Piccola is below the town centre; from the hotel you can walk into the centre and use the lift or steps down towards the port, although a taxi is more comfortable with luggage. If you are arriving by car, the hotel's position on Corso Italia makes access simpler than many properties inside Sorrento's pedestrian historic centre. Private parking is available by reservation, so once you arrive we would leave the car parked and explore Sorrento on foot.
