Why We Recommend It

Hotel du Tasso is one of the most exciting recent additions to Sorrento's hotel scene. Opened in its new form in 2026, it occupies a historic residence closely connected with the poet Torquato Tasso, but the result feels fresh rather than museum-like: elegant, understated interiors, a peaceful Mediterranean garden and beautiful views towards the Gulf and Vesuvius.

What really makes it stand out is the combination of location and intimacy. With just 33 rooms and suites, it feels far more personal than Sorrento's larger five-star hotels, yet you are right beside the historic centre and only a few minutes from Piazza Tasso. The garden is home to Armida Bar and Ristorante Tasso, making it easy to spend an evening at the hotel rather than automatically heading out for dinner. The restaurant is led by Campanian chef Marco Del Sorbo and focuses on refined Mediterranean cooking with local ingredients.

Early guest feedback has also been exceptionally strong, particularly for the location, service, breakfast and overall atmosphere. We think it is an especially good choice for travellers who want proper five-star comfort but prefer a smaller, more individual hotel to a grand resort.

‍

Best For

Couples, honeymoons, special occasions, design-conscious travellers and anyone looking for a luxurious central Sorrento stay without the scale of a large resort.

Good To Know

Hotel du Tasso is a boutique city hotel rather than a resort, so there is no swimming pool and no full spa. There is, however, an excellent sea-view fitness area with Technogym equipment set within the building's historic stone cellars. Not every room has a sea view, so if waking up to the Gulf is important, book a dedicated sea-view category rather than assuming the view comes with every room. Certain rooms are quite compact, which is worth bearing in mind if you travel with a lot of luggage. Private parking is available for an additional charge. Despite its beachfront location, we would not treat it as a hotel with its own beach: nearby beach clubs and swimming areas are very close, but private beach access is not included as part of the hotel stay.

Rooms & Style

The rooms and suites are elegant and restrained, with bespoke furnishings, pale Mediterranean tones and a careful balance between the building's historic character and contemporary luxury. Depending on the category, rooms look either towards the peaceful internal garden or out across the Gulf. The Deluxe Sea View rooms are the obvious choice if the panorama matters, while the Junior Suites offer additional space. At the top end, the named Armida, Cornelia and Tasso suites have private terraces, with some including outdoor hot tubs. The overall style feels sophisticated but relaxed rather than formal or overly ornate.

Location & Getting Around

The location is one of Hotel du Tasso's biggest strengths. It sits directly on Piazza della Vittoria, at the western edge of Sorrento's historic centre, so restaurants, shops, the cathedral, Villa Comunale and Piazza Tasso are all within an easy walk. Piazza Tasso is roughly five minutes away, while Sorrento station is around a 10–15 minute walk depending on luggage and pace. The cliffside position also puts the hotel close to Leonelli's, Marameo and the other bathing platforms below the historic centre. For Capri or Amalfi Coast ferry trips, Marina Piccola is easily accessible from central Sorrento; if you have luggage, a taxi is more comfortable than tackling the changes in elevation on foot. A car is absolutely not necessary here. If you do arrive by car, private/valet parking is available for an additional charge, but once checked in we would leave the car parked and explore Sorrento on foot.
